There are many different potential scenarios with EV Charging. Most vehicles can be charged with a standard 120 volt outlet. This is usually what most EV owners go with, but the down side is that it can take a very long time to charge fully. This level of charging is called Level 1. Level 1 charging usually does not require an electrician to set up anything if a standard outlet is already available. If it is a 20 amp breaker/circuit, -(I would highly recommend that you verify the outlet is a 20 amp outlet.)
The 2nd option is to have a 240 volt circuit installed. There are many options in this case and is based off of a couple of scenarios. This option is now called Level 2. Level 2 Charging can sometimes be as simple as adding an approved industrial-grade 240 volt outlet receptacle. You need to be extremely careful what type of and quality outlet you use in this. It could be dangerous if you do not use better built outlets specifically for car charging applications. I have seen electricians and home owners use standard 240 volt outlets, and this can be dangerous. These will vary based off brands and models. Another option is a charging block or port. This just adds one more component in line between the EV car and the power source if it is not hardwired. This will also vary off brands and models of vehicles and charging ports.
Level 3 Charging is rare for Residential applications and installations. Level 3 charging would require to have an additional service added to the home due to the amperage demand of Level 3 Charging capabilities. 100 amp service potential would need to be available for Level 3 Charging. An additional service may not be required if the home is already equipped with a 400 amp service. Voltage calculations would be required to see if possible.
